【声明】

第51回衆議院議員総選挙の結果を受け、シアターユニットQDはいかなる人間も基本的人権、平和、表現および言論の自由を保証されるべきであるとの立場に則り、団体として以下の声明を発表します。

*本声明はあくまでも劇作団体シアターユニットQDの植田望裕と片山絵里の意思によるものであり、これまで／これからQDの公演関係者の意思を示すものではありません。

In response to the results of the 51st General Election for the House of Representatives, Theatre Unit QD decided to issue this statement, adhering to the principle that any person should be guaranteed fundamental human rights, peace, and freedom of speech and expression.

第51回衆議院議員総選挙（2026年）の結果を受けて

　2026年2月8日投開票の第51回衆議院議員総選挙で、自由民主党は単一政党として戦後最多の単独316議席を獲得し、憲法改正がこれまでになく現実味を帯びてきました。この選挙結果を受け、シアターユニットQDは劇作団体として本声明を出すことを決めました。

　なお、本声明はシアターユニットQDの植田望裕・片山絵里によるものであり、当団体のこれまで・これからの公演関係者の意思を示すものではありません。

　与党自民党が単独で2/3以上の議席を獲得したことにより、基本的人権や表現の自由の制限、戦争の放棄の削除などを含む自民党の憲法改正案発議の可能性、つまり本来国家権力を制限するはずの憲法が、国民を縛るものに変化する可能性はかつてなく高まっています。社会が時に想像を凌駕するスピードで変化することは、歴史からも近年の世界情勢からも明らかであり、危機感を覚えざるを得ません。現与党が国民との対話を図る気がないのは、「大胆な政策」の具体的な説明もないままの、選挙中唯一の党首討論への直前の出演キャンセルや、一定数の有権者にとって投票自体が困難・不可能になることが予想できた急な解散総選挙の実施自体から容易に読み取れます。そのような政府がこの憲法改正案を実行した場合の結果は明白ではないでしょうか。

　基本的人権より国益が優先される社会で、最初に影響を受けるのは少数派です。露骨に政治的な作品を作っているクィアのアーティストとして、大義名分の元に口を封じられる可能性は、残念ながら常に想定してきました。一方で我々が現在このような声明を出すことができるのも、日本において様々な側面でマジョリティであり、特権を持っているからに他なりません。この社会では、どんな人もマイノリティになる可能性があります。誰もが不利益を被らずに生きられる社会を作るためには、コミュニティを越えた連帯をすること、表現および言論の自由が保証されているうちに声をあげることが不可欠です。芸術は常に権力のプロパガンダとして利用されると同時に、抵抗の手段であり続けてきました。世界的に右傾化が進み、分断が深まっていく中で、今必要なのは対話と団結であると、そしてこの憲法を擁する日本社会が、芸術と学問と言論の自由と反戦の砦となる希望を我々は捨てていません。これまで以上に「わかりやすさ」が社会生活における判断要因になっている今、エンターテイメントとされる「ミュージカル」という演劇形態と、社会問題というトピックを結びつけた作品を作ってきたシアターユニットQDだからこそできる抵抗の仕方があると信じ、これからも対話のきっかけとなる作品を作り続けていきます。

　現在の社会構造の中、マイノリティのみで何らかの変化をもたらすには高い障壁が付き纏います。そして、演劇には、社会そのものを変えることはできません。ただ、その社会を構成し、動かす個々人に訴えかけることはできます。過去の過ちを繰り返さないこと。知って、連帯して、声をあげること。好きな演劇を作って、好きな演劇を観に行ける社会であり続けられるように。

Following the results of the 51st General Election for the House of Representatives, Japan (2026)

In the 51st General Election for the House of Representatives held on 8th February 2026, the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) won 316 seats, the most seats held by a single political party since World War II, making constitutional reform more realistic than ever. As a theatre-making group, we, Theatre Unit QD, have decided to issue this statement.

The statement is issued by Noyu Ueda and Elly Katayama of Theatre Unit QD, and does not represent the standpoint of any of those who have been and will be involved in our productions. 

The LDP, currently the governing party, winning more than two-thirds of the seats on its own means that their proposed constitutional amendments, including restriction on fundamental human rights and freedom of expression, and repeal of the renunciation of war, are closer than ever to becoming a reality. If this trend is followed, the constitution, which is supposed to limit state power, will become a tool to bind the people it is supposed to protect. Both history and the current global political climate have shown that society can sometimes change at a speed beyond our imagination. We are at a point of crisis. Given the Prime Minister's last-minute absence from the only leaders' debate of the election cycle, the lack of any concrete explanation of the LDP's "bold policies," and the sudden dissolution and election itself (which by its nature disenfranchises voters), it is clear that the current government party has no intention of engaging in dialogue with the public. Therefore, it is easy to imagine what the outcome would be if such a government were to implement the proposed constitutional amendments. 

Minorities have been and will always be the first to be affected in societies which prioritise nationalistic and militaristic interests over the fundamental human rights of their citizens. As queer artists creating explicitly political works, we have, unfortunately, always anticipated the possibility of being deprived of our own voices in the name of justice. On the other hand, the very fact that we are able to issue a statement like this now stems solely from our position as the majority that are privileged in countless ways in Japan. Anyone can be a minority in this society. To build a society where all the members can live without any disadvantages, it is essential to unite across communities and to raise our voices while freedom of expression and speech are still guaranteed. Art has always been political, whether as the tool of the oppressor or in the resistance of the oppressed. In a world facing deepening social division and the rise of the Alt-right, we believe that dialogue and solidarity are critical at the present moment, and we have not given up hope that Japan, with this current constitution, can become a bastion of peace, freedom of art, freedom of speech, and academic freedom. We are living in a time where the 'digestibility' of information factors more than ever into the decision-making processes which underpin social and political life. As creators who have been creating works that combine social issues as a topic and musical theatre, traditionally categorised as entertainment, as a form, we sincerely believe that there are our own ways to resist, and will continue to create pieces that serve as a starting point for dialogue, community, and positive change.

Minorities alone face significant barriers to bringing about any change under the current social structure. And theatre cannot change society itself. However, it has the power to appeal to the individuals who comprise and shape society. Let us not repeat the mistakes of the past. We must learn, connect, and speak up together to defend a society where the creation and enjoyment of art, speech, and theatre are not restricted or punished. Raise your voice while you can.
